Romantic Wedding Dress

ImageIt’s wedding season once again, and I am so excited to be designing jewelry for a new client to go with this extremely romantic dress!  I’ll be celebrating my 13th wedding anniversary this spring, so it’s not as if I’m in the market for a wedding dress.  Still, I couldn’t resist spending a few minutes browsing the etsy shop of Portland designer Claire La Faye.  Each and every dress is gorgeous!

Warm Vegetable Salad with Farro

Image I was craving something green, something spring, and this salad of poached vegetables with lemon vinaigrette came to my rescue (courtesy of the March issue of Vegetarian Times.)  I have the luxury of home grown sugar snap peas from my parents’ organic garden, and we substituted farro for barley.  I also overcooked the vegetables to please some of the palates in my family, but it was still delicious.

Salad of Warm Vegetable with Lemon Vinaigrette  Serves 4-6

Simmer 2 cups farro in 3 cups vegetable broth + 3 cups water for 15-20 minutes.  In a separate pot, poach vegetables in water that is just under boiling.  Add carrots and green beans first.  Cook 4 minutes.  Then add onions and zuccini for 4 minutes.  Add sugar snap peas and asparagus for another 2-4 minutes.  Drain farro.  Remove poached vegetables with tongs, plate over farro and drizzle with Lemon Vinaigrette.

2 cups green beans, trimmed

1 cup baby carrots, quartered lengthwise

1/4 large onion, sliced

1 small zucchini, sliced

2 cups sugar snap peas, trimmed

1/2 lb. asparagus

Lemon Vinaigrette

1/4 cup olive oil

2 TBS fresh lemon juice

1 tsp. lemon zest

1 tsp. honey

1/2 tsp Dijon mustard

Hand Painted Silk Tees by Brooklyn’s Rachel Rose

Last week my friend Rachel had her handpainted silk tees mentioned on Daily Candy New York. Hooray, Rachel! I thought the coral and blue feather tees from Rachel Rose’s Inkblot Collection WERE my favorites, but now the Squares have debuted. Well, well, well…

Bookish things to admire

I adore these sculptural booklamps by Alanna. I think a pair framing our bed, one over each night stand, would look great. I’ve never cared much for unshaded bulbs, though. While they conjure a certain honest industrial charm, the glare is a pain when it comes down to it. And if we’ve switched our energy-hogging bulbs to compact fluorescents, would that really look decent with these gorgeous book lamps? Doubtful. Yet I do admire how Alanna has carefully selected titles by theme for her upcycled book lamps – paring “Gulliver’s Travels” with “Happy Return” for instance, or making trio of stacked forms from the pages of ‘Little Orphan Annie’, “Jo’s Boys” and “The Brownie Scouts in the Circus”. Clever girl.
And we’ve all taken note I’m sure of the library necklace on Etsy by The Black Spot Books. Composed of miniature handcrafted leather journals, this lovely necklace even made its way to Anthropologie. Amazing!

Custom Wedding Jewelry for Niki M.

I added a new slide to the custom gallery on likeafoxjewelry.com, and it was too beautiful not to post here as well. In my first consultation with Niki about a custom necklace for her wedding, she envisioned a long drape of black beads. Which is the exact opposite of what she got! Considering the the beaded vintage-inspired gown and the sparkling Bando headband that she chose, we decided to up the glamor quotient. The results were nothing short of breathtaking.

Niki’s custom necklace has a vintage rhinestone brooch, faceted glass beads, and reclaimed vintage chain. Niki and Aaron’s spectacular rustic-glamor wedding was captured by Tina Sargeant Photography.
